Bish Dining Room Alteration 2017-2019

Located in Waihau Bay, Te Kaha, the original 1960’s holiday house is now used as a full-time home, and needed a dining space. The original house was adapted by owner and engineer Max Bish, using standard housing company documents. With his amendments, the long sloping roof used exposed beams and structural sarking, and a double-member post design. The approach to the addition was to simply extend the roof, exaggerating the eave depth with an outdoor room to each side of the new (9 sq.m) dining area.

The current owner spends long days working outdoors in the bright Bay of Plenty light, so the extension deliberately provides relief with a dark palette and use of shadow.
